What is a 3D, 4D, or 5D pregnancy scan?
-
3D scans show clear, still images of your baby in three dimensions
-
4D scans show real-time video — you can see your baby move, yawn, or stretch
-
5D scans are our most advanced, offering lifelike, high-definition imaging with enhanced lighting and tone
-
When is the best time for a bonding scan (3D/4D/5D)?
We recommend booking between 24 and 32 weeks of pregnancy for the best image quality and visibility of facial features.
Is 5D ultrasound safe?
Yes. 5D ultrasound uses the same safe sound wave technology as standard 2D scans. It is completely safe for both you and your baby.
Can you tell me my baby’s gender — and how early?
Yes, we offer gender scans from 14 weeks. If we’re unable to confirm gender due to baby’s position, we’ll offer you a free rescan.
Are the scans internal or external?
All scans are abdominal (external). However, for early pregnancy, we may suggest a transvaginal (internal) scan if needed for accuracy — but only with your full understanding and consent.
Who will carry out my scan?
All scans are performed by our highly experienced female sonographers. Pure Scan is a female-led clinic, designed to offer a calm, supportive and respectful environment.
Is ultrasound safe during pregnancy?
Yes. Ultrasound has been safely used in pregnancy for decades and poses no risk when performed by trained professionals.
Can I use Pure Scan instead of my NHS or hospital antenatal care?
No. While we provide supportive and informative scans, Pure Scan is not a replacement for your routine antenatal care.
We are a non-diagnostic service, which means our scans are not intended to replace the medical assessments or treatment plans provided by your midwife, GP, or hospital. We believe your pregnancy care should be managed by a multidisciplinary team for your safety and wellbeing.
We check the wellbeing of your pregnancy, but we do not diagnose or assess pre-existing medical conditions. If we identify something concerning, we’ll provide you with a clinical report and guide you to the appropriate healthcare service.
Can I bring someone with me to my scan?
Yes! You’re welcome to bring up to 4 guests, including your partner, family or friends. For Early pregnancy scans we advise against being your little ones due to the nature of the scan.
Can I bring my child/children to my scan?
Yes, children are welcome, but must remain seated throughout the scan. For safety, they cannot walk or run around the room during your appointment.
What if something unexpected is found during my scan?
If we detect something concerning — such as no heartbeat or unclear pregnancy location — we’ll explain everything clearly and compassionately. You’ll receive a full clinical report and guidance to attend your local Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit (EPAU).
Please note: We do not make referrals, but we can help you find contact information.
Will I receive images after my scan?
Yes. Most scan packages include printed and digital images.
Do I need a referral to book a scan?
No referral is needed. You can self-refer and book directly online or by phone. We welcome all clients, including those under NHS care.
How do I book an appointment?
Book online, by phone, or email. We offer flexible appointments, including evenings and weekends.
Do I need to prepare before my scan?
Yes. For early pregnancy scans, we recommend drinking a large glass of water 30 minutes before your scan and not emptying your bladder. A comfortably full bladder helps us get clearer images.
What if my 4D scan doesn’t show clear images?
If you booked a full 4D bonding scan and we couldn’t get clear images due to baby’s position, we’ll offer you one free rescan ( if no aspect of your baby's face is seen/Only back of baby's head seen/No images were able to be taken on the day).
Please note: Free rescans are not available for the Mini 4D bonding scan.
When can I start C-section aftercare therapy?
You can begin therapy from 6 weeks post-surgery.
